This Thursday (May 1st), F&M College is hosting its annual kids poetry reading and you don’t wanna miss it! Barbara Buckman Strasko, Lancaster’s Poet in the Schools, has worked with local students over the last few years to help them develop their poetry. Poetry Paths collects student work, publishes annual anthologies, and puts on these celebratory readings. The reading is at 6:30 PM in the Roschel Performing Arts Center. Come celebrate the creative work of some of Lancaster’s youngest poets.
If you’re in Scranton on Saturday (May 3rd), join the Breaking Ground Poets as they welcome spoken word poet and punk rocker, Jeanann Verlee. The show will cost you 10 dollars and starts at 6:00 PM. Eric Wilson, friend of The Triangle and founder of Swandive Publishing, has this to say about Verlee:
“OK. So I get excited about a lot of these poetry events, I do. This one is the one I’m most excited for. Jeanann Verlee’s book Racing Hummingbirds is one of the best collections of poetry that I’ve ever held. Ive seriously been reading it on repeat for years now. Her performance will melt you on the insides like you’ve dropped an entire thunderstorm into your own bathtub. And, and, and she is coming to Scranton. Get your poetry on, help the kids, maybe change your heart for evs.”
As always, you can find these events and more on our Calendar.
